All work must be submitted online at SlaterMuseum.org using the Entry Form by January 4th. Two entries per artist. High resolution, JPG/JPEG images are required for each work of art. Artists must submit images of both the obverse (frame included) and reverse of two dimensional works of art. Hardware must be visible in reverse image. ALL WORK MUST BE READY TO INSTALL. Two dimensional works must be framed, glazed if on paper, with screw eyes/wire - multi-part works must be assembled as one unit and comply with size/weight limits. NO SAWTOOTH HANGERS. No work greater than 60 inches in any dimension. Maximum weight: Two-dimensional 80 lbs - Three dimensional 150 lbs. The SMM staff reserve the right to remove from consideration any object that does not meet these criteria. The Museum Director may over-ride any selection made by the juror.
$15 for the first entry, $10 for the second entry. The total fee is paid via credit card upon submission. Current Friends of the Slater Museum Members may submit first entry free of charge. Fees are nonrefundable and must be paid by the entry deadline of January 4th. An entry will not be considered until the total fee is paid.
Accepted works will be received in the Atrium (adjacent to and to the north of the SMM, enter through glass doors and follow signs) on Friday January 22 8:30-3:30, Saturday January 23 1-3:30, and Sunday January 24 1-3:30. Do not ship or bring accepted works during unspecified hours.
All accepted works will receive careful handling by competent staff; however, the Slater Memorial Museum, or anyone connected with this exhibition, cannot be held responsible for the loss or damage to any entry work of art subject to this condition. Please ensure your hanging hardware is sound and meets the above criteria. In the event of loss or damage, the artist will be asked to provide sales records and/or appraisals as supporting documentation towards determining the insurance value of artwork. Any negotiation regarding final valuation is between the artist and the insurance company. SMM’s liability is limited to the amount paid by insurance.
Accepted work will be displayed in the Converse Gallery through Friday, March 12, 2021. We do not allow early retrievals. Displayed works must be collected Saturday March 13 1-3:30, Sunday March 14 1-3:30, or Monday March 15 8:30-3:30. at the MAIN RECEPTION DESK/VISITOR CENTER. A $5 per day late fee will be charged thereafter. If you cannot retrieve your work, it is your responsibility to delegate. Do not call the Museum for assistance.
With consideration for COVID-19 safety measures, the Slater Memorial Museum reserves the right to present this exhibition as an online-only event. In this case, artists whose work is accepted should be prepared to submit high-resolution JPEG images.
The 2021 Juror is Kenneth E. Silver, Professor of Art History at NYU. Silver’s research interests include Modern and Contemporary art, design, and culture. In addition to teaching Silver is a contributing editor to Art in America and serves on the Editorial Board of French Politics, Culture, and Society. His curatorial experience includes acting as an Adjunct Curator of Art at the Bruce Museum in Greenwich, CT and the Guest Curator of the Jean Cocteau Exhibition (2022) at the Peggy Guggenheim Collection.
