Your participation makes a difference.

Whether you’re renewing your membership or joining for the first time, when you become a Friend of the Slater, you’ll be supporting the museum in more ways than ever before. Your membership dues may work to fund the following initiatives:

Acquisition and Expansion: The museum’s collection is augmented through the acquisition of art and artifacts that promote its core mission. Friends of Slater purchases include objects as diverse as John Denison Crocker’s Edward Tracy Farm, Lisbon and the museum’s Filipino Santos figure collection.

Collections Restoration: The Slater adheres to collections stewardship best practices through the employment of conservation experts to repair damaged works and prevent further deterioration. Recent conservation supported by the Friends includes The Cobb Boys and John Denison Crocker’s Hunters.

Building RenovationIn 2010 the Slater Museum entered the initial phase of a multi-year renovation project that will provide universal accessibility to patrons, climate control throughout the building, and facilitate the re-installation and interpretation of the permanent collection. Designated gifts made by Friends have totaled more than $150,000 toward this effort.

Exhibitions: Several exhibition openings each year are hosted by the Friends of Slater. Members also have funded honorariums for expert scholarship and lecture fees for special programs.

While the benefits and programs we offer to you provide an incentive for your continued support, we hope that the knowledge that you are supporting and keeping alive one of the most valuable and rare treasures in the state and region is a reward in itself.
