The Slater Memorial Museum of Norwich Free Academy is currently seeking individuals to join our dedicated corps of Museum docents.

Docents are critical to the Museum’s operations and perform a number of tasks within their role. Museum docents lead educational tours for students of all ages, greet visitors in the welcome center, work with Museum collections, and assist with many special events.  Docents also have the ability to receive further professional development in the form of periodic workshops and visits to other museums and cultural organizations.

All prospective docents are required to participate in training classes, which are held once a week over the course of 17 weeks. Training for 2020 will take place from January to April. Training is comprehensive and covers diverse topics such as art, art history, Colonial history, and much more. Docents must additionally pass a background check.
